ABSENCE OF

FIGURE

Using found images from well-known fashion magazines, the figures of the models are removed and the remaining fabric is distorted to form abstract sculptural shapes.

Some appear haunted as they stand without anyone inside to hold them up. Some are electric with their light-flowing fabric. Others appear strained as the body that once existed within the material twists in different directions.

Choosing paint to recreate these edited images allows for further mutation, enhancing the colours and exaggerating folds or movement within the fabric, reflecting the use of photoshop and airbrushing within the fashion industry. The splashes of colour that are left mimic the motion of brush strokes, drips and splatters found in a painting.
